Conflicts of Interest and Funding Policy

Who operates and funds FreeMedicalJournals.com?

FreeMedicalJournals.com is operated by Guest Posting LLC. The website, including its Medical Guides section, is funded by its owner.

Our About Medical Guides page identifies the editor and medical reviewer. For questions about ownership or funding, contact us.

The user should be able to assess whether money, employment, professional obligations, or personal interests could have reasonably influenced a Medical Guide. As such, authors, medical reviewers, and editors at FreeMedicalJournals.com (FMJ) are asked to report on all relevant interests and these will be treated by FMJ as an editorial consideration. It is the policy of FMJ to treat reporting of conflicts as a process to ensure transparency, and not merely as a formality.

Reporting Interests

Interests that need to be reported include:

  • Employment; consulting; speaking fees; honorariums; and/or advisory positions related to the subject matter;
  • Research funding or other funding related to the subject area;
  • Stocks/shares/options/and/or patents directly or indirectly associated with the subject area;
  • Financial interests in products, services, clinics, publishers or healthcare organizations mentioned within the Medical Guide;
  • Leadership or advocacy positions closely associated with the subject area;
  • Personal/professional relationships that may impact their editorial judgment.

The fact that an interest exists does not necessarily mean there has been wrongdoing, nor does it necessarily preclude someone from participating. Rather the question is whether the average reader would want to know about the interest.

Handling Conflict of Interest

All relevant disclosures should be placed in a location easily accessible by readers. Where appropriate, depending upon the nature of the interest, FMJ may consider having the work reviewed independently, limiting the scope of contribution, providing additional context or assigning the work to another person.

If a relevant interest changes after submitting to FMJ, authors and reviewers are expected to inform FMJ. If a conflict of interest was not disclosed prior to publication and subsequently identified, FMJ reserves the right to review both the disclosure statement(s), and the article(s) themselves for correction.

Funding & Commercial Relationships

No organization or individual sponsoring a Medical Guide should have undue influence over what conclusions are drawn based on the evidence. Sponsors/advertisers cannot require suppression of information that contradicts the sponsored product’s claims, nor select only favorable references to support their product claims. Sponsors cannot approve the clinical language contained within articles. All sponsored materials must be clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or similar designation. Advertising must also be clearly distinguished from editorial content.

Any affiliate link or other commercial arrangement made between FMJ and third parties must be clearly disclosed. However, neither should this create a bias towards how evidence is interpreted nor toward how potential risks/benefits/alternatives are described.

Raising a concern

Questions about a possible conflict or funding relationship can be sent to contact@freemedicaljournals.com. Please include the relevant page and enough verifiable detail for the concern to be assessed fairly.
